During the XL (40th) Pan-Hellenic Conference on Solid-State Physics & Materials Science that was held on 20-23 September 2026 in Patras Greece, a poster has been presented in collaboration of TERNA MAG S.A. with the group of Prof. Psarras from the University of Patras.
It was shown that the efficiency of PVC in energy storing/retrieving applications could be improved by employing suitable reinforcing fillers, while the inherent flame retardancy of poly(vinyl chloride), which deteriorates as progressing to its plasticized compounds for the respective flexible applications, can be sustained through suitable mineral fillers. Current study has investigated the effect of various hydroxides and carbonate minerals upon their influence on flame retardancy and dielectric properties in composites with a plasticized PVC matrix underlining the important role of magnesium carbonate. PVC composites depending on the employed mineral filler have been proved efficient in flame retardancy, mechanical performance, dielectric insulation, and exhibit ability for energy storing and retrieving.
